Hi, ive been having problems with my CPU usage lately. My CPU usage has been at or above 50% constantly, even when no processes are making it. I am a frequent player of Overwatch and League of Legends, and this has been making me lag, when i normally wouldent.

This has happened a couple times in the past, but usually my computer just needed to update, but there hasnt been any updates since it started doing this two days ago. The only programs i usually have open are Chrome and Skype, and even when they arent using much CPU, it still stays at or above 50%.Ive done multiple things to try and fix it, i have ran CCleaner, disabled my anti-virus(avast) for a couple mins, I even contacted Microsoft Support through chat, and they made me delete temp files, do a sfc scan, and do a clean boot, but none of that worked. I even tried to do a system restore to the day before this started happening, the day when an update for windows came out(9/12/2016), and that didnt work(It said system restore didnt work successfully or something like that and it said 'An unspecified error occurred during SystemRestore'). So im pretty much out of ideas now, and i was hoping you amazing people could help me.By the way, this is my task manager when my computer had nothing open but the normal startup programs.

Definitely looks like a stalled Windows update.I don't use Windows 7 anymore. My friend, whom still uses Windows 7, reports that he has to leave his system on overnight to allow the update to begin downloading and installing.Does he have his Install New Updates at some time during the night?Even when he changed the time to earlier in the day it didn't help. The download of the update files from Microsoft's update servers wouldn't even happen until sometime overnight. Installing isn't the problem. Waiting for the download of the update files to begin to happen, is where the problem is. You can monitor the network usage of the stalled system process to determine if the update files are actually being downloaded. As @junkeymonkey has mentioned, Microsoft seems to have made some changes that have adversely affected Windows 7 updating in particular. My Windows 10 updating has no such problem. Still 7 beats the heck out of malware 10 I'd have to really hate your guts to recommend 10 to you.

On anything under skylake and they got that 'fix' in placejust turn off auto updating my 7 does this from time to time but I don't let it get the better of meI set my windows update settings to check for updates but let me decide to download and install. If folks were not so goo gaa over pc gaming there really no reason to use windows anymore Microsoft just lost touch and there o's today win-10 is more a dictatorship then a oslike I said try to set windows update to never check for updates and that disables auto checking but you still can manually check for updates by just clicking the 'check for updates' buttonya, its all about Microsoft trying to make you think you need to go to 10 its bad os they know it and pissed cause no one wants it so they got to resort to these kinda tactics to trap you in to it'.

Waiting for the download of the update files to begin to happen, is where the problem is'one time I waited and still showed 0% but when I shut down it showed installing 7 of 7 updates?? CrazyI also see you got mse? I use it and think when it trys to update and the os trys to update at the same time it gets 'stuck'I don't know if it updates then fine if not then o'well better luck next time I boot upI see some time I just reboot and stops that cpu useage??? Maybe resets it some how???googling around looks like 10 gets stuck as well. Hmmmm thing is I never had this issue until 10 release, see? I'm with Junkey on this.

Microsoft is making using Windows 7 or 8 frustrating so people will switch to 10. I have auto updates turned off on Windows 8 and today when I went to manually download and install some 'important' updates it was stuck at 8% for a half hour or longer. When I came back from lunch about 2 hours later, the updates were complete. I think I only installed 5-6 updates and the total size was less than 80MB. I receive download speed of 8mbits/second, so my connection speed isn't the issue. Earlier in the day I downloaded the Windows 8.1 64 bit ISO file (about 3.5 GB) in less than 1/2 hour. As lonfg as YOU think so I'm cool with thatbetter read that eula you agreed toyou know cause your mad and having to defend it now by belittling me.

Yaaaaa buddylike I said as long as they feel your happy with that'Still, whether or not you agree with Belfiore’s standpoint that this doesn’t invade user privacy, it does seem strange that it has taken Microsoft so long to come clean and admit core Windows 10 background data collection processes cannot be stopped. That article refers to the consumer versions of the OS.Enterprises wouldn't allow that type of data gathering. If Microsoft didn't allow corporate users to disable data gathering then no corporation would ever adopt or migrate to Windows 10 or later. In an Enterprise environment there is no need for the client systems to be connected to the internet to be able to get upgrades or for activation. An enterprise would be running their own activation server and would also push out updates on their own timetable.Don't automatically assume everyone uses the consumer version of the OS. Revert to windows vista, all your problems will be solved.

Or linux. The enterprise doesn't have this crap because corporations won't tolerate it. People need to refuse to use this crap too, that is the only way to stop it. I don't even care about the spying but this sort of cancer also makes things massively unstable. Plus the ridiculous mobile desktop for pcs.what crap.Either they come to their senses or eventually when vista is unworkable it's Linux for me. At this point in time Linux is as good or better for gaming anyway.

You can play all the old games on dosbox or wine, which you can't even play on windows any more! Plus all the latest games are coming out for linux anyway. So there is really no reason to put up with this nonsense. In the enterprise realm they are low rent garbage and in PC realm they have made things totally unworkable. Time for these idiots to go.
