Feb 15, 2014 Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum. My grandmother left me this mandolin though there is no label on it as to the date or make of this beautiful mandolin. The fret board is pure mother of pearl along with the bird shown in the picture. Was hoping someone could provide me with information on this and what the possible value might be. Thanks in advance!!
This is an old Lyon and Healy 5 string openback banjo for sale. I bought it as a project and never got around to it. The peghead shape identifies it as a Lyon and Healy to me, I don't find any markings. The neck is straight, 243/4' scale, and has aftermarket friction tuners. The heel should be cut (imo) so it will set up like a modern banjo. The frets are decent but the fingerboard is pitted and underwent a previous attempt at repairing it. It appears as though the fingerboard is just 'ebonized', so the frets could also be pulled, a new fingerboard installed, and this could easily be turned into a fretless.The pot is 11' single spun over, and was previously polished or burnished removing all the nickel.
The lugs are there, some hooks and nut are mismatched. The head is slunk.
